As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. Keeping safe and healthy during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic has led preparation-minded EDC folk to seek out new solutions to help them adapt. RovyVon, best known for their innovative and highly functional compact flashlights, have come up with a design that could help give you an extra level of protection by putting a way to kill or render viruses inactive right in the palm of your hand. The Angel Eyes E700U combines a powerful quad-LED setup at the front with the germicidal function of triple UV-C emitters on its side, giving you a practical—and extremely relevant–multi-purpose EDC light.

On the front, the E700U sports four CREE XP-G3 LEDs that can output a maximum of 2,800 lumens. A metal e-switch and a simple interface allow you to access the light’s functions easily. You get quick access to a momentary Turbo mode with a long press of the power button when the light is off, and a double click to turn the light fully on ensures that you don’t get accidental activation and waste your battery charge. Mode memory turns the light on to your last used level, and once on, a click cycles you through the front light’s four output levels: Low, Medium, High, and Turbo.

A quartz window below the metal power button covers the UV-C side lights that set the E700U apart from other multi-LED flashlights. Three quick presses turn on the trio of 18mW UV-C LEDs, which are different from the UV side lights that are present in some earlier RovyVon models and variants. These have a germicidal effect by having a wavelength of 270nm, which is 99.9% effective at killing or inactivating harmful microorganisms. Simply hold the light over your gadgets and appliances at a distance of around 4 inches for a few minutes. Triple clicking again when these side lights are on revert you back to the front light. From either front or side light use, a long press turns the Angel Eyes E700U off.

Do note, however, that UV-C light is not to be used for sterilizing your hands or skin. It’s limited to sterilizing your gear, work area, and face masks, and that in itself offers an extra level of safety from viruses and microbial cells. Proper hygiene like washing your hands and social distancing are still going to be the essential behaviors for keeping yourself healthy and virus-free.

The onboard 21700 li-ion 5,000mAh battery can quick charge using the included USB Type-C cables, and the package comes with two cables (B-to-C and C-to-C), allowing you more flexibility for power sourcing. The flashlight itself can function as an backup power bank, for use outdoors or in emergency situations. A battery indicator flashes red while charging, and goes solid blue when you’ve topped up.

All of this functionality is housed in a waterproof 6063 aluminum alloy chassis that’s IPX8-rated, handling continuous submersion of up to a meter. An adjustable two-way pocket clip and a magnetic tail base give you options for carry and deployment, letting you clip this light to your pack or belt or hang it off metal surfaces. The included lanyard helps with grip and carry as well. At 4.2 x 1.2 x 1.5 inches and 7.9 ounces, the Angel Eyes E700U is a compact and solid multi-purpose light that you would be glad to carry for its utility.

The RovyVon Angel Eyes E700U is a unique EDC flashlight with great front light output, a large battery with powerbank functions, and germicidal UV-C LEDs that afford you extra protection from biological agents and hazards, making it a compelling flashlight to EDC during these times.
