MANGO SPRING/SUMMER TRY-ON

Posted by admin on

Are y’all sick of these try-ons? I hope not, because I have one more for ya! I ordered a bunch of stuff to try from Mango several weeks ago and did a little try-on over on Instagram, but totally forgot to share them here… oops! Luckily all of this stuff is still available, and most of it is under $100!

I absolutely LOVE the floral print on this dress! The colors are bright and the details are feminine, but with a black background it makes the ideal transitional piece for spring and fall. The dress is sheer all over, but it comes with a black slip you style underneath. There’s a tie belt for cinching in the waist and an asymmetrical ruffle overlay that adds some interest and texture. It’s a great number for daytime (more casual offices, church, baby/bridal showers), but it’s super easy to dress up for date night dinner and other nighttime events! I’m wearing a size 6 here, which fits me perfectly!

Yes, I got another trench… sue me! They’re the ultimate wardrobe staple in my book and perfect for wearing all spring, summer and fall. I style them over dresses and jeans alike! They’re a reliable lightweight layer, convenient for everyday wear and travel. They add instant polish to any ensemble! Most of my trenches are longer and hit me below the knee, so I thought this shorter style would be a nice alternative to those when wanting to mix it up. As someone who is constantly scrunching up her sleeves, I truly appreciate the option to button the sleeves on this trench! It’s often more flattering and just looks more effortless, in my opinion. The belt is attached, so you don’t need to worry about losing it! Let it hang, tie it in the back, or wrap and tie in the front. I’m wearing a small here and it still has an oversized fit – either take your normal size or size down!

I also tried this black lace trim cami, but it just doesn’t fit me right. I’m wearing a medium, and it’s a little too boxy. It’s also on the shorter side, so it may work better on a shorter torso! Take your normal size or size down in it!

I normally don’t go for dresses without a cinched waist, as they tend to look like tents on me… but this one I love! Especially with the current situation of wanting to be cute and comfortable while at home/social distancing. I love the ease of this dress, but also how glamorous and fashion forward it is! I’ve mentioned this before, but my mood is generally better when I look and feel my best – even when I’m isolated at home! I may not be putting on makeup every day, but I am trying to put on a cute outfit to lift my spirits. This is a dress that will definitely do the trick! I’m 5’9 and it is just long enough to wear with flat sandals. Shorter gals may be able to wear it with heels later on! I did try it on with a simple black belt and it looked great – I just need a belt that is more neutral to go better with this soft color scheme.

Like that dress at the top of this page, the entire thing is sheer – it also features a matching slip for coverage underneath. I’m wearing a size 4 here and it fits perfectly, as does the slip underneath! Because it looked oversized online, I sized down and it was the right call. It features a fabulous ruffle trim at the neckline and down the front of the dress, as well as a ruffled hem and tie details at the cuffs. The print is a very subtle floral, featuring pale green, pink and ivory with thin black outlines.

You guys know I love me a shirtdress. They’re sophisticated, easy to style and versatile for so many occasions! This neutral style features a belted waist, large pockets at the chest and hips, and ivory buttons. I’m wearing a size 6 here and the fit is on point. No pulling or gaping anywhere! It’s the ideal hem length for a midi, hitting me halfway where my leg starts to narrow. For the most elongating and flattering look, you never want a dress or skirt to cut you off at the widest part of your calf! I also really love the roll-up sleeve detail on this dress as well. Like Meghan Markle, I prefer a 3/4 sleeve or rolled/scrunched up sleeve to a long one – it’s just more flattering!

When I did this try-on I mentioned I didn’t think I’d be keeping this dress… but I actually did! When packing up the box to return I made a game time decision to keep it. It’s under $100 and just a useful piece that works well with the other items in my closet!

This dress may photograph well at certain angles, but it is not worth your time. First, it took me a good two minutes to figure out how to actually put it on. There’s just too much going on! It’s also not comfortable, as the neckline is not elasticized (even though it looks like it!). It feels very restrictive every time you move! Finally, it’s not flattering. While I usually love a one shoulder and a ruffle, the combo on this dress was not a good look! The extra sleeve under the ruffle on the left was unflattering as it didn’t allow the space at my waist to show when my arms are down. The tie waist belt is also situated too high on me, so my stomach didn’t look right from any angle. It may look better on a shorter gal! With all of that said, I really loved the floral print and color scheme. Would have loved this in a different silhouette of dress, or even in a blouse!

One more basic item I picked up in this MANGO order is this silky neutral button-down. As I mentioned above, I generally prefer a 3/4 or scrunched sleeve to a long one – most of my button-downs are long sleeved styles, so I thought this would be a nice addition to mix things up! It’s a style I can wear now in the spring, wear it into summer with white and again in the fall with earthy tones and black! I’m wearing a 6. It’s somewhat boxy on me, but I think if I sized down to a 4 it might pull across the chest or be too small in the sleeves…. so take your normal size! PS: This blouse is under $50!

I sort of had a feeling this dress wasn’t going to work when I ordered it, but with free shipping and free returns I figured I might as well try it! I generally avoid styles with large sleeves, as they tend to make me look bigger than I am – I have a large chest, so anything I can do to minimize my top half I usually try to! With that said, I loved the print and wanted to give it a go in person. My first discovery was how difficult it was to get on! I ordered an XS because it looked very oversized on the website… well, it definitely WAS oversized, but the slip underneath was not. The slip it comes with is both incredibly short and tight (a proper XS), while the dress is so big and loose it fits like a medium. If you’re going to get this dress, I’d recommend getting it lined or finding a more comfortable short slip to wear underneath!

The print really is gorgeous, and the sleeves are dramatic in the most fun fashion. There are two thigh high slits, making this maxi feel more breezy and light for summer! In the end, I decided to return it. I just didn’t see myself dealing with this slip/getting another one just to make the dress wearable!
